Zambian writer and literary scholar Anna Zgambo has been selected to participate in the African Literary and Cultural Studies Writing Workshop and Mentoring Programme.
Designed by the University of Nairobi and funded by the British Academy, the programme runs from June 2026 to May 2027 and will culminate in publication. It focuses on building networks and supporting publication in African Literary and Cultural Studies.
Anna will join fellow writers at the University of Nairobi on 10 August for a fully sponsored 4-day in-person writing workshop.
In her words, Anna says:
“I saw the opportunity on James Murua’s Writing Africa and applied by submitting an abstract on ‘The Lyric Mode in Contemporary Kenyan Poetry.’ I am grateful for the chance to continue conducting poetry research in Kenya.”
Anna Zgambo’s most recent poems appear in Bluestem Magazine, The Journal of African Youth Literature, Midway Journal, The Weganda Review, and elsewhere. As a Mawazo Fellow, she conducts poetry research at the University of Zambia for her PhD in literature. Anna is the Poetry Editor of Ubwali Literary Magazine.
Congratulations, Anna, on this well-deserved literary achievement!
