The Witsprouts Project, a cultural organisation dedicated to inspiring increased participation in African arts and culture, is excited to announce that nominations for the second edition of the Witsprouts Storytelling Prize are now open.
The Witsprouts Storytelling Prize celebrates talented young creators and artists who are pushing the limits of narrative storytelling through multimedia. It is open to all aspiring, passionate storytellers, performers, and creatives. The contest comes with a cash prize of ₦500,000.
With this second edition, The Witsprouts Project is expanding its scope, honouring storytellers in all forms of oral and multimedia storytelling, from podcasts and spoken word to animation, audio drama, video, and more. There is no theme to this edition; the prize is simply seeking storytellers who are doing the work of making stories matter.
The Witsprouts Storytelling Prize is open to young storytellers and voice artists who are:
- Using multimedia to tell engaging, impactful stories.
- Working in any form of oral or multimedia storytelling.
- Based anywhere across Africa or the African diaspora.
Anyone can nominate — a friend, a colleague, a fan, or the storyteller themselves.
Speaking on the prize, Tope Akintayo, Director of The Witsprouts Project, shared the idea behind this edition’s focus:
“Storytelling is one of the most powerful tools we have, and it is evolving. Contemporary griots, creative podcasters, spoken word artists, animators, voice-over artists, and everyone involved in the art of storytelling are carrying something important forward. The Witsprouts Storytelling Prize exists to make sure those voices are encouraged, celebrated, and supported.”
He further affirmed Witsprouts’ mission of enhancing the creative ecosystem, saying:
“At Witsprouts, we believe creativity is best rewarded when given a platform. We strive to always showcase emerging creatives whose work is worth sharing with the world.”
