The 8th edition of the African Writers Awards is now open for submissions.
Dedicated to recognizing both established and emerging writers of African descent, the 2025 awards call for original works of poetry and short stories based on the theme: “African Pride; A Cultural Narrative.”
Participants must choose only one genre—either poetry or short story to avoid disqualification. Poetry entries must be no more than 14 lines, while short stories should range between 3,000 to 5,000 words.
The standout entries will receive a $250 cash prize each for the best short story and best poem. In addition, winners will be published on the African Writers Conference website and featured in the 2026 edition of Writers Space Africa Magazine.
Sponsored by Anthony ‘PenBoss’ Onugba, submissions are open until July 1, 2025.
Writers are encouraged to submit their entries here.
Best of luck to all applicants!
