Narrative Landscape Press has announced the acquisition of Mayowa and the Sea of Words, the ‘long-awaited’ children’s book by Nigerian-British author Chibundu Onuzo.

Mayowa and the Sea of Words follows ten-year-old Mayowa, who discovers that she possesses an extraordinary ability—by jumping on books, she can absorb and transfer the emotions within them to others. Guided by her eccentric Grandpa Edward, she soon learns that she is not the only book jumper in existence, and not everyone shares her desire to use this power for good. When faced with the chance to help save countless refugees, Mayowa must navigate a world of magic, danger, and responsibility.

Born in 1991, Imachibundu Oluwadara Onuzo FRSL is a Nigerian novelist. Her first novel, The Spider King’s Daughter, won a Betty Trask Award, was shortlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize and the Commonwealth Book Prize, and was longlisted for the Desmond Elliott Prize and the Etisalat Prize for Literature.

She has written for outlets including The Guardian and NPR, and contributed the short story “Sunita” to the 2019 anthology New Daughters of Africa, edited by Margaret Busby.

Congratulations on the acquisition Chibundu Onuzo!
