Published by the University of Pittsburgh Press, Obligations to the Wounded is a winner of the 2024 Drue Heinz Literature Prize and other notable prizes. The book is now in the running for one of the most respected honors in independent publishing.

The Firecracker Awards recognize standout works in independently published literature, including categories for Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Poetry, and Magazine publishing. In addition to celebrating important literary contributions, the awards highlight the publishers who bring these voices to readers.

Each winning title in the book categories receives $2,000—split between the author and the publisher. Winners also benefit from a national publicity campaign, which includes features in CLMP’s newsletters, promotion to over 500 independent bookstores, and wide exposure across social media and literary platforms.

The 2025 winners will be revealed during a virtual ceremony on June 26 at 6 p.m. ET.
