Saraba Magazine has opened submissions for June 2026, with entries accepted throughout the month.
The magazine is also accepting submissions for The Revival Project, a multi-phase archival and editorial initiative aimed at reclaiming, digitising, and celebrating significant African writing that is currently inaccessible to modern digital readers.
Submission Guidelines
- Send your unpublished work in any of the three broad categories: Fiction, Poetry, and Nonfiction.
- Do not send in any material that has been published elsewhere in print or on the web, except specifically requested.
- Send no more than one work at a time, and wait for a response before you send another.
- All entries are read blind, so do not include your name anywhere in your submission file.
- The maximum word count for fiction works is 5,000, except otherwise announced.
- Poetry submissions are limited to three poems submitted in a single document
- Nonfiction submissions may not exceed 5,000 words and may include memoirs, interviews, personal essays, reviews, travel writing, creative journalism, and other forms of nonfiction.
- The magazine is also open to visual art submissions, including photography and illustrations, which should be submitted as high-resolution files.
- Send alongside a bio of not more than 200 words (in third person).
- Chapbook: Unsolicited poetry will not be considered for the chapbooks. Publication of a chapbook is at the discretion of the publishers and the editors, who take into account previous publication in issues of the magazine and/or an author’s critical acclaim. Further enquiries should be directed to editor@sarabamag.com.
Writers can expect to receive a response within three to four months after the submission deadline. All submissions must be made through this Submitable link.
The submission window closes on 30 June 2026.
Best of luck to all applicants!
