Efiko Magazine is accepting applications of poems, short stories, and essays of the highest quality for its 5th edition, from writers of African origin based anywhere in the world.
Founded by Ladi Opaluwa and Oris Aigbokhaevbolo, Efiko is an online literary magazine with a focus on Africa as both place and perspective. It is the definitive publication for bookish folks interested in Africa and its environs.
Submission Guidelines
- Each manuscript must be the original, unpublished work of the entrant and in English. Published work is not eligible for the prize.
- Manuscripts must have the following requirements: poetry (2 to 5 poems totalling 10 pages); short story and essay (2,000 to 7,000 words).
- All entries must be submitted as a Word document attachment to submissions@efikomag.com in the following format: Times New Roman, 12 points, double-spaced, with numbered pages.
- All entries must be sent in with the following information: the genre of your submission in the subject line of your email. Save the attached document with your name and the genre of your work and include a 5-line bio in the body of the email.
- Submit ONLY one piece per issue.
Accepted submissions for contributors with a Nigerian bank account are paid 30,000 naira for two or more poems or for prose over 2,500 published words, and 20,000 naira for works below these numbers, with payment processed upon publication. Due to inter-country transfer issues, contributors with non-Nigerian bank accounts will receive a novel or nonfiction book of their choice, with the value (including processing) capped at $40.
