Ubwali Literary Magazine has announced the call for applications to its 2025 Ubwali Masterclass, a paid, online writing programme open to writers across genres and continents.
Now in its latest edition, the Ubwali Masterclass offers global access to craft-focused instruction, editorial support, and publication opportunities. Participants will engage in live virtual sessions, receive personalised feedback, and work through writing, revision, and editing with experienced instructors. The programme also includes curated reading materials and a certificate of completion.
This year’s faculty features a diverse lineup of writers and editors: Yvette Lisa Ndlovu, Adedayo Agarau, Foday Mannah, Neelika Jayawardane, Sihle Ntuli, A.K. Herman, and Kasimma.

The programme will run from 6–8 PM Central African Time (11 AM–1 PM Central Standard Time). A $30 fee covers full participation, and a limited number of scholarships are available.
Scholarships include:
- The K.P. Ndakalako Scholarship for African Writers (KPNSAW): open to three African writers globally.
- The Frances Ogamba Scholarship for African Writers (FOSAW): open to five writers residing in Africa.
- The Ubwali Alumni Scholarship (UAS): open to two former Ubwali contributors.
- The Ubwali Scholarship for Zambian Writers (USZW): open to three Zambian writers previously published in Ubwali.

Applicants seeking financial support must submit a 300-word statement outlining their need. No separate application is required. Scholarship recipients will be notified in August.
The programme, scheduled for August 24–30, will bring together fifteen writers to learn from a faculty of celebrated authors. Applications close May 31.
