From ancient times, music has been an important aspect of human existence. Suffice to say that music is a food for the soul (if you understand the power of sound, you will know this as a fact). Music is a universal language that connects people across cultures and borders.
One question that has been on my mind, however, is why Nigerian musicians decided to make this Nigerian town famous. It is not a bad thing, but it is not one that one would expect to become famous for music. You probably think I’m talking about Lagos when I mentioned popularity due to music. It’s always been the entertainment hub for Nigerians, but no I’m talking of a different place. This is a town that many Nigerians once knew very little about; I only knew of this town when they used to mention it in the NTA news that was how I got to hear about the name of this town for the first time but today this town is trending everywhere.
You must have been wondering what the name of the town is. Without further ado, the name of this town located in the North Central region of Nigeria is Gwagwalada. Let me give a brief history of Gwagwalada. It is one of the five local government areas of Abuja and it was created on the 15th of October 1984. Gwagwalada is where the mini campus of the University of Abuja is located. School For the Gifted is also located in the area.
One song that has made waves and is still making waves in the Nigerian music scene is “Gwagwalada” by BNXN Fka Buju featuring Kizz Daniel and Seyi Vibes. The song has been receiving massive airplay and it peaked as the number 1 song in Nigeria on Apple Music as of 2023 when it was released. No doubt, the song won the heart of many Nigerians (myself included).
“Gwagwalada” is an Afro-fusion song with a unique blend of reggae, dancehall, and R&B elements. The song talks about the good life and the desire for wealth and success. Its lyrics are catchy and relatable, making it a fan favorite among music lovers in Nigeria and beyond. Gwagwalada is a song sung by three Nigerian artists: BNXN Fka Buju (formerly known as Buju), Kizz Daniel and Seyi Vibes.
In the song “Gwagwalada,” BNXN Fka Buju delivers a smooth and melodious chorus that complements the song’s overall sound. Kizz Daniel brings his signature sound to “Gwagwalada,” adding a layer of dynamism and energy to the song. Seyi Vibes soulful vocals and smooth delivery add a unique flavor to the song, creating a harmonious blend of the different styles and sounds. The production of “Gwagwalada” is top-notch, with Sarz delivering a beat that features a unique blend of instruments such as the saxophone, guitar, and drums. The song’s instrumentation is a testament to the skill and creativity of the producer, making it an excellent listen from start to finish.
“Gwagwalada” by BNXN Fka Buju featuring Kizz Daniel and Seyi Vibes is a masterpiece that showcases the beauty of Afro-fusion music. The song’s success is a testament to the talent and creativity of the Nigerian music industry and its ability to create music that resonates with people worldwide. It’s no surprise that “Gwagwalada” held the number 1 song in Nigeria on Apple Music as of 2023 when it was released. The song is bound to continue to dominate the airwaves and also going to be the favorite of Nigerians for a long time to come.
Before now, artists such as P-square and Tekno have also mentioned this town in their songs. I personally find the song so cool and enchanting. I play it often and it is the song I was playing while I was writing this post. Yes, I have been to Gwagwalada. It is indeed a peaceful town.
