In what has been a prolific year for award-winning author, Eugen Bacon, her new collection of short stories titled A Place Between Waking and Forgetting is now out, released on 19 September 2024 by Raw Dog Screaming Press.
As it is synonymous with her work, the collection of short stories is expectedly genre-bending, traversing genres and sub-genres of dark fantasy and the literary strange in Black speculative fiction. In this book, Eugen Bacon interrogates themes of writing the ‘other’, betwixt, hauntings and unlimited futures.
Booklist‘s A. E. Siraki described Eugen Bacon and her work as: “…staggeringly good, and this newest collection is a testament to her excellence. Highly recommended.”
Among the many exceptional pieces in A Place Between Waking and Forgetting is the World Fantasy Award finalist story, “The Devil Don’t Come With Horns”. Many who are familiar with this story, or with the genre-bending, multi-award winner’s work, know to expect an unputdownable experience with this book.
It arrives with a poetic introduction by award-winning writer and poet Linda D. Addison, the first African-American recipient of the world-renowned HWA Bram Stoker Award®. Addison has received five awards for her collections, and has been honoured with the HWA Lifetime Achievement Award, HWA Mentor of the Year and SFPA Grand Master of Fantastic Poetry.
