Masobe Books has unveiled the cover of Danged Black Thing by Tanzanian-born author Eugen Bacon. The book is part of the five-title acquisition announced in March 2026.
A collection of short stories about love and migration, gender, class, patriarchy, and womanhood, Danged Black Thing is scheduled for release on 21 August 2026, together with the paperback version of The Road to Woop Woop and Other Stories, another collection of African Australian short stories.

Serengotti, a literary novel haunted by the strangeness and yearnings of a displaced community, is set for release in November 2026. The rest of Eugen’s acquired books are scheduled for 2027.
A multi-award-winning author and editor whose work spans literary, speculative, and Afro-irreal storytelling. Eugen Bacon is a Solstice, British Fantasy, Ignyte, Locus, and Foreword Indies Award winner.

She recently won a British Science Fiction Association (BSFA) Award, one of two African authors in the diaspora to win the award. She is also a finalist in the World Fantasy, Shirley Jackson, Aurealis, Philip K. Dick, Victorian Premier’s Literary, and Nommo Awards for speculative fiction by Africans. Eugen is an Otherwise Fellow and was recognised on the Otherwise Award Honour List for exciting work in gender and speculative fiction.
Danged Black Thing and The Road to Woop Woop and Other Stories will be available from August 21, 2026.
