Nigerian-American writer, Nnedi Okorafor, has been officially inducted into the Science Fiction & Fantasy Hall of Fame

Nnedi, celebrated for her unique blend of African culture and speculative fiction, has captivated readers worldwide with her imaginative storytelling and compelling characters. In her acceptance speech, Nnedi expressed her gratitude and shared her hopes for the future of speculative fiction.

 “I am deeply honoured to join the ranks of such esteemed creators. This recognition is not just for me but for all the voices and stories from Africa and the diaspora that have yet to be told. I hope this inspires more writers to explore and share their unique perspectives.”

Nnedimma Nkemdili “Nnedi” Okorafor (formerly Okorafor-Mbachu; born April 8, 1974) is a Nigerian American writer of science fiction and fantasy for both children and adults. She is best known for her Binti Series and her novels Who Fears DeathZahrah the WindseekerAkata WitchAkata Warrior, Lagoon and Remote Control. She has also written for comics and film. Her writing is African-futurism and African-jujuism, which is heavily influenced by her dual Nigerian and American heritage. She is the recipient of multiple awards, including the Hugo AwardNebula AwardEisner Award and World Fantasy Award. She is considered to be among the third generation of Nigerian writers.

As a creator, Nnedi has consistently pushed the envelope, challenging conventional narratives and introducing readers to new worlds and possibilities.

The Science Fiction & Fantasy Hall of Fame was established in 1996 to honour individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the science fiction and fantasy genres. The Hall of Fame is part of the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle, Washington, and includes a diverse array of writers, filmmakers, artists, and creators whose work has shaped the landscape of speculative fiction.
