The Awele Creative Trust (ACT) has officially released the longlist for its 2024 short story prize, showcasing some of the most promising young literary talents in Nigeria.
This year’s longlist features 12 remarkable short stories, each exploring themes ranging from personal identity to grief, resilience, and societal expectations. The 2024 ACT longlist includes:

- Henrietta Lehiowo Etta for Before the Dark
- Chioma Deborah Oguadimma for Alien Contradictions
- Mbaeze Nnedimma Magreth for Mami Wata
- Ekemini Pius for Burying Greg
- Nnamdi Vin-Anuonye for Is This How We Say Goodbye?
- Faith Nwani for How a Girl Learns Shame
- Chinaza James-Ibe for Fly and Corpse
- Godwin Adah for The Outpost
- Halima Abdulazeez for Silent Screams
- Azubuike Obi for The Smell of Dead Things
- Súnmisolá Olúdé for Patron Saint of Dying Waters
The ACT Prize has gained recognition for identifying and nurturing young Nigerian writers, many of whom have gone on to achieve further literary success. Through mentorship, exposure, and financial support, the trust aims to equip these young storytellers with the tools needed to thrive in the literary landscape.
The next stage of the competition will see the announcement of the shortlist, leading up to the final selection of a winner.
