The 2024 Abebi Award in Afro Nonfiction has revealed its shortlist, recognizing twelve women whose essays emerged from a competitive pool of 250 submissions.
The shortlisted essays are as follows:

- Remembering by Fatimah Otukoya Olufunlola
- Genesis: Notes on Dysphoria by Ifeoluwa Williams
- My Grandmother’s Memory Box by Mariam Oyewunmi Tijani
- I was 8, 10 and 22 in March, November and June by Ngozi Stephanie Ugbekile
- A Life’s Garden by Oluwakemi Agbato
- A Molue Epiphany by Shalom Tewobola
- The Body Paradox by Sunmisola Odusola
Established in 2023, the Abebi Award in AfroNonfiction celebrates bold narratives by Nigerian women, encouraging the exploration of personal and societal themes through creative nonfiction. Named after Alhaja Abebi Monsurat Lasaki, the award seeks to amplify voices unshackled by cultures of silence and shame.
