Soma Nami Press, a newly formed Kenyan publishing business, is seeking short stories for their inaugural Kenyan anthology with the there: “Kenya-ness”. The anthology aims to showcase the diverse voices and perspectives that make up Kenyan culture.
The collection will include stories that celebrate, unpack, examine, and challenge the essence, beauty, and uniqueness of “Kenya-ness.” Soma Nami seeks entries for this debut collection that are humorous, engaging, and bold while remaining communicative and approachable. Submissions are not limited to any genre as long as they address the topic matter.

Submission guidelines are as follows:
- Deadline for submissions is March 15, 2024
- Short stories should be between 2,000-5,000 words (including title, author’s name, and contact details)
- All work must address the subject matter, “Kenya-ness”.
- Submissions will only be accepted from Kenyan citizens, and you will need to provide proof of citizenship if your work is accepted.
- Submissions should be accompanied by an author bio including links to any previously published works.
- Submissions must be formatted in Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, and submitted in .doc or .docx format.
- All submissions must be in English although they may include other languages.
- Only original works that have not been published before will be accepted. Stories selected for the anthology will undergo editing, copywriting, and proof reading as necessary and you can expect to undergo several rewrites.
- Authors may submit up to two stories, but not more than one may be accepted per author.
- Only submit work that is exclusively your own work. Plagiarism is not acceptable.
- Submission is only open to writers aged 18 and above.
- Accepted stories will be compensated for up to Kes. 10,000.
