The highly anticipated Quramo Festival of Words is set to make a triumphant return for its eighth edition this year, with the theme, The Shifting, which ‘mirrors the dynamic changes of our global landscape’.
In accordance with its aim of providing a platform for emerging African writers, Quramo Media has established the Quramo Writers’ Prize. This prestigious award offers a unique opportunity for unpublished writers to gain recognition, mentorship, and publication. By celebrating the diverse voices and rich narratives of African writers, the prize contributes to the continued growth and development of African literature on the global stage.
The festival will offer a rich tapestry of literary experiences, including masterclasses from industry experts, intimate book chats with renowned authors, and thought-provoking panel discussions. Attendees will also have the opportunity to witness the raw power of spoken word in the Word Slam and immerse themselves in captivating films.
The films that will be screened are The Man Died, an on-screen adaptation of Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka’s The Man Died, and the documentary Ebrohimie Road: A Museum Of Memory directed by Kola Tubosun as a tribute to Soyinka and his place of residence at the University of Ibadan between 1967 and 1972.
The festival also boasts of a stellar line-up, with guests including Prof Rotimi Oladele, Sony Alpha, Femi Odugbemi, Dr Eghosa Imasuen, Azafi Omoluabi, Ayodele Olofintuade, Ibiso Graham-Douglas, Othuke Omniabhos, Anwuli Ojogwu, Oyin Talabi, Mazi Nwonwu, Jumoke Coker, Sam Onyemelukwe, Aduke Gomez, Irabor Okosun, Adewale Orosun, Harry Kesiena, Lawon Adams, Somi Delano, Prince Abiola Kosoko, Folusho Agbaje, Olasupo Shasore, Kagho Idhebor, Akaoma Onyeonoru, Adolphus Opara, and Precious Iroagalachi, Linda Bembatoum, Ololade Okedare, Fidelis Duker, James Murua, Oluwalanu Agusto, Toyin Akinosho, and Kunle Kasumu.
A highlight of the festival will be the Cultural Exchanges, which will foster cross-cultural understanding through discussions and explorations of storytelling traditions from different regions. Additionally, attendees will have the exclusive chance to engage in a Q Conversation with a literary legend. The winner of the 2024 Quramo Writers’ Prize will also be announced during the festival, showcasing the exceptional talent of emerging writers.
The Quramo Festival of Words will take place from October 2nd to 6th, 2024, at the Eko Hotels & Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos.
