Nigerian writer Olakunle Ologunro has been announced as a 2025–2026 Olive B. O’Connor Fellow in Fiction at Colgate University.
The Olive B. O’Connor Fellowship in Creative Writing, offered by Colgate University’s Department of English and Creative Writing, supports emerging writers in completing their first books. Fellows receive a generous stipend, office space, and access to a vibrant academic community. In return, they teach one multigenre creative writing workshop per semester and present a public reading of their work.
Upon being selected as one of the 2025-2025 Olive B. O’Connor Fellow, Olakunle said:
“I am delighted, honoured, and incredibly grateful to be part of a cohort of talented writers who have received this prestigious fellowship. It is an opportunity I do not take for granted at all.”
Olakunle Ologunro earned his MFA from The Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins University. His accolades include receiving a Tennessee Williams Scholarship in fiction at the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, being longlisted for the 2024 Commonwealth Short Story Prize, and being named a finalist for the 2020 Adina Talve-Goodman Fellowship from One Story Magazine. Also, he has received support from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and other institutions. His works have appeared in Story Magazine, Lolwe, the Queer, Africa anthology, the Feel Good anthology, among others.
