A 17-year-old Nigerian student, Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, has emerged as the world’s best in English language skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals, triumphing over more than 20,000 participants from 69 countries. The competition, which concluded earlier this month in London, tested students across categories such as vocabulary, grammar, persuasive communication, and writing.
Nafisa, who hails from Yobe State in northeastern Nigeria, represented Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC) in Kano. She topped all levels of the competition, earning the highest overall distinction in her age group and bringing home the Global Champion title in English.
Nafisa’s win was part of a broader wave of Nigerian success at the international competition. Two other Nigerian students — both also from Yobe State — earned major distinctions:
- Rukayya Muhammad Fema was declared Champion in Debate Skills.
- Hadiza Kashim Kalli received the Outstanding Talent Gold Medal for her exceptional performance.
The Nigerian delegation as a whole walked away with a total of 1 gold, 2 silver, 5 bronze medals, and 5 Honourable Mentions in various categories, making it one of the top-performing countries at the event.
The victory has sparked celebration across Nigeria and prompted renewed focus on the importance of educational access — especially for girls.
The former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, said that Nafisa should be honoured with $100,000, a three-bedroom flat, and the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), similar to rewards recently given to members of the Super Falcons and D’Tigress. In his words:
“I strongly recommend that Nafisa deserves $100,000, a three-bedroom flat, and a national honour from the Federal Government of Nigeria. In addition, her English teacher deserves a reward similar to the one given to the coaching and technical team of the football and basketball players. We must continue to take education very seriously and reward the efforts of our citizens.”
Additionally, Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar extended his full congratulations, emphasizing the broader significance of Nafisa’s triumph:
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Nafisa Abdullah Aminu of Nigerian Tulip International College, Yobe State, for her remarkable achievement in being recognized as the world’s best in English at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals. Nafisa’s outstanding success serves as a powerful testament to the limitless potential of the Nigerian girl-child when provided with quality education and a supportive environment. Investing in the education of our girls is not just a matter of fairness; it is a strategic necessity for national transformation. Let us, as a community, commit to dismantling every barrier that prevents the girl-child from realizing her full potential.”
Amongst all the good news, let this moment serve as a reminder of what’s possible when talent meets opportunity — especially for the Nigerian girl-child. Nafisa’s success is not only hers alone; it belongs to every teacher, every sponsor, every family, and every young girl who dares to dream beyond limitation.
Congratulations, Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, Rukayya Muhammad Fema and Hadiza Kashim Kalli on your big win!
