Zambian author Mubanga Kalimamukwento has been named a finalist at the 2025 Minnesota Book Awards for her book, Obligations to the Wounded.

Published by the University of Pittsburgh Press, the collection delves into the lives of Zambian women, weaving stories of resilience, cultural identity, and the human condition. Kalimamukwento’s inclusion in the prestigious Minnesota Book Awards further underscores her growing influence in the literary world.

The Minnesota Book Awards, established in 1988 and organized by The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library, celebrates literary excellence across several categories, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and children’s literature. The awards highlight the diverse voices of Minnesota’s vibrant literary community and are a key event in the state’s cultural calendar. Authors and illustrators are judged by panels of writers, critics, librarians, and booksellers, making the awards a coveted achievement in the world of literature.

The awards ceremony will take place on April 22, 2025, at the Ordway Center for Performing Arts, where Kalimamukwento’s nomination is sure to be a highlight.
