Moremi Review will host the 2026 International Women’s Day Reading, bringing together a lineup of African women poets from across the continent and the diaspora for an evening of poetry, conversation, and literary exchange.

The event, hosted by Nigerian writer Jakky Bankong-Obi, is scheduled for March 8, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. (WAT) via Google Meet, in celebration of International Women’s Day.

This year’s reading will feature six poets whose recent works have contributed to contemporary African poetry. Among them is I. S. Jones, author of the poetry collection Bloodmercy, which won the APR/Honickman First Book Prize in 2025.

Also scheduled to read are Aria Deemie, author of Humans for Sale; Hauwa Saleh Abubakar, author of Undone; Roseline Mgbodichinma, author of A Body in Spice; Leano Debra Ranko, author of Little Birds, Say Your Prayers; and Rahma Jimoh, author of Ashes.

Several of the featured titles are part of a poetry box set published by the African Poetry Book Fund in partnership with Akashic Books.
