The 2024 Eriata Oribhabor Poetry Prize (EOPP) has announced its judging panel, featuring two distinguished poets, Jide Badmus and Nasiba Babale.
The 2024 Eriata Oribhabor Poetry Prize (EOPP) is an annual literary prize instituted in November 2012 by Words Rhymes & Rhythm (WRR) in partnership with prominent Nigerian poet, essayist, editor, and social commentator Sir Eriata Oribhabor. EOPP came about to give the much-needed attention Nigerian poetry deserved and encourage young Nigerian poets to use poetry as a tool for social change.
About The Judges
Jide Badmus, a returning judge, is a poet and engineer known for his evocative works that explore themes of beauty, destruction, and love. He is the author of four poetry collections, including Obaluaye (FlowerSong Press, 2022) and What Do I Call My Love for Your Body (Roaring Lion Newcastle, 2022). Beyond his writing, he is the founder of INKspiredng and serves as the Poetry Editor of CỌ́N-SCÌÒ Magazine. Badmus has played a significant role in curating anthologies and mentoring emerging poets.
Nasiba Babale, a medical laboratory scientist and a prominent literary figure, brings extensive experience to the panel. As the Creative Director of the Poetic Wednesdays Initiative, she has actively contributed to the literary community. Babale has judged competitions such as the Nigerian Students Poetry Prize and moderated the Glass Door Initiative’s Poetically Written Prose contest. She was shortlisted for the Brigitte Poirson Literature Prize (2023) and the Eugenia Abu International Prize for Creative Non-fiction (2024). A fellow of the Ebedi International Writers Residency, she is the author of The Rain is Like You (2023) and Pickled Moments (2024), both published by Konya Shams Rumi.
The EOPP 2024 celebrates these accomplished poets as judges, recognizing their dedication to poetry and their invaluable contributions to the literary landscape.
