The organisers of the AprilCentaur short story contest have unveiled the winners of their 2024 competition. The winners, in order of placement, are:

  • Enit’ayanfe Akinsanya
  • Desmond Udeh
  • Eniola Dada
  • Doubra Gift 

Enit’ayanfe Akinsanya is a Nigerian writer whose work has appeared in several notable publications including Isele and The Shallow Tales Review. He is a contributor to JAY Lit Issue 7. Akinsanya was also a top finalist for the 2023 Afritondo Short Story Prize.

Desmond Udeh has been longlisted for the 2024 Commonwealth Short Story Prize and was the top finalist for the 2022 Wingless Dreamers Poetry Competition. He has been published in The Kalahari Review and Brittle Papers.

Eniola Dada is a second-year Law student at the University of Osun State, Ifetedo. Dada is an aspiring writer with a passion for dogs and romance novels.

Doubra Gift is a freelance writer and storyteller focused on sharing African stories that highlight the continent’s evolution while preserving its rich heritage.

The winners will receive cash prizes of $1000, $500, $300, and $200 respectively. The organisers expressed gratitude to all participants for making this year’s edition a success!

AprilCentaur is a visionary network dedicated to nurturing African creative talent through storytelling. The flagship initiative, the annual AprilCentaur Short Story Contest, offers a $2000 prize pool to African writers aged 16-30.  Their mission extends beyond just hosting competitions; they aim to provide creatives with regular income opportunities, removing financial barriers to their artistic expression.
