Nigerian writer, H.B Asari has been unveiled as the winner of Arts Lounge Magazine’s: Akachi Chukwuemeka Prize For Literature 2024 with her winning entry, The Last Trauma Poem. She walks away with an award worth 100,000 naira in prize money.
Chaired by the contest judges, Ogochukwu Ukwueze and Obor Chinecherem, Asari is announced as the winner among which two honorary mentions were included: Portrait as an Anti-ballast by Chinemerem P. Nwankwo, Morning Rituals and how to Contain Chaos, by Aishat Yahkub.
H.B. Asari is a Niger Delta writer. She is the winner of the 2024 Stephen A. Dibiase Poetry Prize and has been shortlisted for the Commonwealth Short Stories Prize 2023 and the Climate Change Poetry Prize 2022. Her work has appeared in FIYAH, Strange Horizons, Fantasy Magazine among others.
Arts Lounge magazine launched the Chukwuemeka Akachi Prize in remembrance of the talented poet, Chukwuemeka Akachi. The Lounge is dedicated to raising awareness on mental health. The winner goes home with a prize of 100,000 naira.
