The New York Times Book Review has recently revealed The New York Times’ Best Books of the 21st Century and their authors. In the 27th position was Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie coming in with her novel, Americanah.

Alexandra Jacobs, book critic for The Times says:

“Americanah centres on a Nigerian woman, Ifemelu, who discovers what it means to be Black by immigrating to the United States, and acquires boutique celebrity blogging about it. (In the sequel, she’d have a Substack.) Ifemelu’s entanglements with various men undergird a rich and rough tapestry of life in Barack Obama’s America and beyond.”

He continued by rating Chimamanda’s Americanah with his words:

“And Adichie’s sustained examination of absurd social rituals — like the painful relaxation of professionally ‘unacceptable’ hair, for example — is revolutionary.”

The New York Times Book Review is a weekly paper-magazine supplement to the Sunday edition of The New York Times in which current nonfiction and fiction books are reviewed. It is one of the most influential and widely read book review publications in the industry. The magazine’s offices are located near Times Square in New York City.
