Tampered Press has announced the launch of The Tampered Press Manuscript Prize, inviting submissions for a groundbreaking literary award that highlights innovative voices in Ghanaian fiction. The prize seeks to celebrate book-length works of literary fiction in English by both published and unpublished Ghanaian authors residing primarily in Ghana.
Judging this year’s submissions are two acclaimed authors whose works have left an indelible mark on African literature; Nigerian author and architect Yewande Omotoso, known for her novels The Woman Next Door and An Unusual Grief, brings her signature sensitivity and insight to the panel. Joining her is Ghanaian author Ayesha Harruna Attah, whose celebrated works The Hundred Wells of Salaga and The Deep Blue Between delve deeply into African histories and familial ties.
As the literary landscape continues to evolve, The Tampered Press Manuscript Prize signals a commitment to fostering bold, innovative fiction that reflects the richness of Ghanaian life and storytelling traditions.
To be eligible, writers must be of Ghanaian nationality and currently residing in Ghana. Manuscripts must be unpublished and primarily written in English, although entries that creatively integrate Ghanaian languages are encouraged. Submissions should be between 40,000 and 60,000 words.
The winner of the prestigious prize will receive a cash award of ₵20,000, alongside simultaneous publication in Ghana by Tampered Press and in Nigeria by Masobe Books. The initiative aims to champion stories that challenge conventions, exploring the complexities of Ghanaian identity and experience through fresh, boundary-pushing narratives.
