The Afritondo Short Story Prize, an annual literary competition celebrating Black and African voices, is now open for submissions for its 2025 edition.
This year’s theme, “Masks,” calls on writers to explore the multifaceted roles of masks in social, psychological, spiritual, and cultural contexts.
Entrants are encouraged to delve into the concept of masks as both physical objects and metaphorical coverings, symbolizing various aspects of identity, secrecy, and the intersections of the ordinary and supernatural. The competition seeks stories that challenge conventions, offering imaginative perspectives on how and why people wear masks and the unique roles they play in society.
The judging panel for the 2025 prize features prominent literary figures: Rémy Ngamije, Ama Asantewa Diaka, and Umar Turaki, each bringing a wealth of experience and an eye for original storytelling.
Submission Guidelines:
- Entrants must be a citizen or national of an African country.
- The manuscripts must be written in English.with a word length between 3,000 to 5,000 words.
- Stories should creatively respond to the theme “Masks,” addressing its spiritual, psychological, social, and cultural implications.
