Kuchalo Media Limited, a digital platform dedicated to connecting Zambians in the diaspora with opportunities and stories that celebrate cultural identity, has announced an open call for entries for the Kuchalo Song and Poetry Competition. The competition is open to Zambians of all ages, with submissions closing on 20 February 2025.
Participants are invited to compose either a poem or a song under the theme “Zambian Culture.” Each entry must be recorded as a video and submitted online. Creators are encouraged to be original, authentic, and expressive in their artistic work. Kuchalo Media has emphasized that AI-generated content will not be accepted.
All submissions should be recorded in 9:16 portrait video format and shared on participants’ social media platforms using the hashtag #kuchaloworld.
The competition aims to promote Zambia’s rich cultural heritage by encouraging storytelling, creativity, and artistic expression. Through this initiative, Kuchalo seeks to nurture talent, strengthen community bonds, and uphold the spirit of Ubuntu.
Previous winners have spoken positively about the competition’s impact. Stiigner Bmelanin ZM, winner of the music category in the last edition, described the experience as a turning point in his career, noting that it opened doors to new opportunities and exposed his work to a wider audience.
Similarly, Nathan Meleki, winner in the poetry category, shared that winning the competition boosted his confidence and remains a treasured milestone in his creative journey. He said:
“At first, I was motivated by the prize money. But I later realised that even without winning, the exposure was valuable. The theme challenged me to reconnect with my roots, my upbringing, and my identity, and I tried my best to represent that authentically.”
This year’s competition will award six winners, with cash prizes distributed as follows: K2,500 for first place, K1,500 for second place, and K1,000 for third place. Winners will be announced during the Kuchalo Diaspora Virtual Live Show on 28 February 2026.
