Brittle Paper has announced the call for submissions for its 2024 Festive Anthology, inviting writers to contribute poetry, short stories, and essays that capture the spirit of festive celebrations ‘offering readers 25 days of heartwarming literary pieces instead of chocolates’.

Brittle Paper is an esteemed online literary magazine dedicated to readers of African literature, recognized as Africa’s premier online literary brand. Their platform inspires readers to explore and celebrate the rich diversity of African literary experiences. With a mission to cultivate a fun and informative space, they aim to inspire, entertain, and empower the audience through a vibrant and immersive literary journey. 

The focus of the anthology is on the anticipation and preparation leading up to special occasions. Writers are encouraged to explore a variety of festivities, whether it’s a family tradition, a religious holiday, a cultural festival, or a wedding. The goal is to reflect the rich diversity of celebrations from across the continent’s cultures and faiths.

Submission Guidelines

  • Submit one original and unpublished piece in Word format.
  • The anthology welcomes both poetry and prose.
  • The word count limits are as follows: poetry has a 500-word limit, while fiction and non-fiction submissions have a 3,500-word limit.
  • Simultaneous submissions are also allowed.
  • Use the subject line “Festive Anthology Submission.”
  • Include an author photo and biography.
  • Send in your entry to submissions@brittlepaper.com
