Bakwa has unveiled the cover for their 11th issue titled Bakwa 11: When Love Is a Scream. The issue is described as a genre-defying edition that gives voice to stories, essays, poetry, pieces contemplating and contextualising the realities and experiences of women.
Bakwa was founded in Yaounde in 2019 as an offshoot of Bakwa Magazine and has a reputation for producing high-end writing and translations in beautifully designed books. They publish major voices across generations and are the proud home of writers such as Hemley Boum, Nana Nkweti, Mwalimu Johnnie MacViban and Bate Besong.
Bakwa 11: When Love Is a Scream includes contributions by Jamila Osman, Nadia Ahidjo, Bertille Mbarga, Yvette Yko Tetteh, Deborah Usidamen, Koutoukouté, Gladwell Pamba, Hajaarh Muhammad Bashar, Tsatchou Leïla Fortune, Akua Amankwah, Mx Elle, and Selma Kovich. The cover is designed by Christo Musinguzi.
While this issue is not set for release until later in May 2024, Bakwa is hosting its launch tomorrow, 28th March 2024, at Goethe-Institut, Yaounde, Cameroon. The event will feature a conversation between Nadia Ahidjo & Bertille Mbarga, and a spoken word performance by Latifah Summayya.
