A multifaceted Nigerian writer and reproductive health physician, Muti’ah Badruddeen is celebrated for her fiction that centers on the experiences of Nigerian Muslim women. She is the author of Rekiya & Z, which earned recognition as the Best Islamic Fiction in the 2021 Daybreak Press Book Awards and the 2021 Fofkys Readers’ Choice Awards. Her novel Falter (formerly Faltering Steps), initially released in 2003 and republished in 2021, further showcases her literary prowess.
Badruddeen’s works have appeared in platforms like Isele Magazine and The Niqabi Diaries, reflecting her commitment to amplifying Muslim narratives. Additionally, she was a finalist in the TLC UK Pen Factor Competition in 2022, demonstrating her growing influence in contemporary literature
Now in its nineteenth year, the Escalator Fellowships provide an invaluable platform for unpublished fiction writers based in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Norfolk, and Suffolk. Over the course of eight months, Muti’ah will receive tailored support, including one-on-one mentoring from an established writer, industry insights, networking opportunities, and free membership to the Society of Authors.
