Nigerian poet, David Ishaya Osu has been unveiled as the winner of the Charles Rischbieth Jury Poetry Prize 2024 for his poem, Daylight.
Daylight is a poignant and evocative poem that explores the human experience through inventive form and sensual language. Praised for its nuanced and sophisticated relationship between language and subject matter, the poem builds slowly, stacking images and fleeting moments to create a richly textured world.
David Ishaya Osu is a Nigerian poet, memoirist, street photographer and PhD candidate in Creative Writing at the University of Adelaide. With 100+ publications across Uganda, Nigeria, South Africa, the UK, the US, Australia, France, Austria, Bangladesh, Canada and India, David has also read and performed in cities including Abuja, Adelaide, Bangor, Canterbury, Jos, Kaduna, Keffi, Lagos, Minna.
His work has appeared in Magma Poetry, Meanjin, The Victorian Writer, Poetry Wales, New Welsh Review, Griffith Review, The Hopkins Review, The Oxford Review of Book, among others.
