The African Writers Trust is inviting applications for its 2024 Short Course on the Writing Craft, Editing Process, and the Business of Publishing.
The course will focus on key aspects of the publishing cycle, from writing and editing to the final stages of production and marketing. Through hands-on assignments, group presentations, and one-on-one consultations with leading industry experts, participants will gain valuable insights into the craft of writing, manuscript preparation, and the business side of publishing.
Application Guidelines:
- Open to writers of fiction (novels and short stories) from East Africa and the Horn of Africa.
- Applicants must have an ongoing writing project or manuscript aimed for publication.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required, as all sessions will be conducted in English.
- Applicants must commit to full participation for the entire duration of the course.
- Submissions must include a writing sample to be evaluated for quality and strength.
Selected participants will benefit from training in crafting publishable short stories and novels, as well as gaining knowledge in structural editing, copy editing, and proofreading. They will also acquire skills necessary to navigate various tasks in the publishing process, receive guidance on creating a marketing plan to boost sales, and have the opportunity to pitch their manuscripts to industry professionals, receiving personalised editorial feedback.
This six-day program will take place from October 15th to 20th, 2024, at Hotsprings Villas Hotel in Kampala, Uganda.
