Poetry Sango-Ota has announced Aishat Yahkub as the winner of the 2025 Kukogho Iruesiri Samson Poetry Prize for her poem What Holds the Needy Road on the Way Home.

First Runner-Up

  • Samuel A. Betiku for Epiphany II.

Second Runner-Up 

  • Adejoke A. Alagbe for Dusk in the Cassava Fields.

The organisers also announced two Honourable Mentions, namely:

  • Wash-Anigboro Harry for To Be A Poet, You Must Still Fire.
  • James-Ibe Chinaza for Dusk Ripens at its Zenith.

A Nigerian creative, poet, art enthusiast, and overwhelmed medical student, Aishat Yahkub, is a “Best Of The Net” nominee; her poem Morning Rituals and How to Contain Chaos was a finalist for the 2024 Akachi Chukwuemeka Prize for literature. Others appear in Brittle Paper, Agbowó, Fiery Scribe Review, Peppercoast, and elsewhere.
