British-Nigerian author Tade Thompson and African-Australian writer Eugen Bacon are among the winners at the 2026 British Science Fiction Association (BSFA) Awards, announced on April 5 at Eastercon in Birmingham, England.
Tade Thompson won the award for Best Shorter Fiction for his novella The Apologists, published in Clarkesworld, while Eugen Bacon took home Best Non-Fiction (Short) for Spec Fic and the Politics of Identity: Finding the Self, published in Strange Horizons.
They were joined on the shortlist by several other African writers across multiple categories, namely:

- Wole Talabi for his story Descent
Best Collection (For collections and anthologies)
- Cheryl S. Ntumy for her collection Black Friday
Best Fiction for Younger Readers
- T.L. Huchu for Secrets of the First School.
First established in 1970, the BSFA Awards are voted on by members of the British Science Fiction Association and attendees of Eastercon, the United Kingdom’s national science fiction convention.
