The University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Centre for Creative Arts has announced the top 10 finalists for the prestigious Poetry Africa Slam Jam Competition, marking the 28th edition of this celebrated event.
The finalists, selected from a pool of talented poets, include:

- Busisiwe Mahlangu
- Dshamilja Roshani
- Jonathan Lefenya
- Khanyisa Mabasa
- Masai Sepuru
- Olive Olusegun
- Sello Chokoe
- Solly Ramatswi
- Tshegofatjo Makhafola.
The Poetry Africa Slam Poetry Competition is an integral part of the Poetry Africa Festival, which has a long history of celebrating and nurturing poetic talent across South Africa and beyond. The competition aims to provide a platform for poets to express their creativity while engaging with themes of human rights, justice, and equality. It also emphasises the importance of freedom of speech and creativity, as enshrined in the South African Constitution.
The event is supported by the National Lottery Commission and the University of KwaZulu-Natal, among others, and will culminate in a thrilling finale where one poet will be crowned the champion.
