The Ignyte Award Committee has unveiled the finalists of the 2024 Ignyte Awards, out of which included Africans from across the globe making the continent proud with their exceptional work. The African authors who made the finalists according to their categories are:

Outstanding Novel: Adult

  • Shigidi and the Brass Head of Obalufon by Wole Talabi (DAW Books)

Outstanding Middle Grade

  • Abeni’s Song by P. Djèlí Clark (Starscape) 

Outstanding Novella

  • The Lies of the Ajungo by Moses Ose Utomi (Tordotcom)

Outstanding Short Story

  • A Witch’s Transition In The City Of Ghosts by Oluwatomiwa Ajeigbe (Beneath Ceaseless Skies)

Outstanding Speculative Poetry

  • Imported Entry Into An Android Cosmos by Nwuguru Chidiebere Sullivan (FIYAH)
  • Alternate Rooms by Nwuguru Chidiebere Sullivan (Nightmare)

The Community Award

  • Voodoonauts Summer Fellowship by Shingai Njeri Kagunda, Yvette Lisa Ndlovu, LP Kindred, Hugh “H.D” Hunter

The Ignyte Awards Committee, composed of 20 BIPOC+ voters including SFF community members and previous award winners of diverse genders, sexualities, cultures, disabilities, and global locations, alongside an additional five youth judges for the kidlit categories, has carefully curated this year’s shortlist. 

The eagerly awaited announcement of this year’s winners will take place on November 6th.
