The Aké Arts & Book Festival has announced its official call for submissions for the 2025 edition of Aké Review, the festival’s annual journal.
Now in its 13th edition, the journal will be themed “Reclaiming Truth,” inviting bold, original works that interrogate, restore, and reimagine African narratives.
Writers and visual artists from across the continent and the diaspora are encouraged to submit unpublished work that aligns with the theme. Eligible categories include poetry (up to three poems), fiction or reflections (maximum 800 words), and artwork (a maximum of two high-resolution JPEG images).
Entries must be original and submitted via email to editor@bookbuzzfoundation.org with the subject line “AR25 Submission.” Contributors are also required to include a short biography not exceeding 70 words. Only one submission is allowed per entrant.
Successful contributors will receive two copies of Aké Review and a token honorarium in appreciation of their work.
Founded in 2013, the Aké Arts & Book Festival has become one of the most important literary events on the African continent, spotlighting emerging and established voices in literature, visual art, performance, and critical thought. Each year, Aké Review serves as a curated anthology of ideas and creative expression, featuring contributors whose work speaks to the sociopolitical and cultural experiences of Africans today.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, 15th August 2025.
Best of luck to all applicants!
