The Kano International Poetry Festival (KAPFEST) is set to return for its second edition from September 11 to 13, 2025, in the Kano metropolis.
Organized by the Poetic Wednesdays Initiative, the three-day festival aims to gather poets, writers, and literary enthusiasts from across Nigeria and beyond.
This year’s theme, “Poetry in a Time of Crisis,” focuses on the power of poetry to respond to contemporary challenges. The festival will explore how poetry serves as a means of advocacy, enlightenment, healing, and resilience amid social, political, and global uncertainties.
Founded as a platform to amplify creative voices in Northern Nigeria, KAPFEST debuted as a bold effort to engage the community through spoken word and literary arts. Its return signals a deepening commitment to using poetry as a cultural and civic tool.
The 2025 edition is curated by Nasiba Babale and Salim Yunusa, two prominent figures in the region’s literary scene and key members of the Poetic Wednesdays Initiative. According to the organizers, this year’s programming will expand on previous offerings, with a lineup that includes live performances, discussions, workshops, and collaborative sessions.
Details on featured guests and program highlights will be announced in the coming weeks.
