Their works have been published in esteemed anthologies and magazines, such as Clarkesworld, Lightspeed Magazine, and Apex Magazine making African writers to get more recognition for their great work in science fiction, fantasy, and horror.
The Year’s Best African Speculative Fiction Volume 3 (YBASF V3) showcases a vibrant tapestry of voices and narratives from across the African speculative fiction landscape. Featuring works like Nalo Hopkinson’s “The Most Strongest Obeah Woman of The World” and Tananarive Due’s “Suppertime,” this anthology delves into themes ranging from mysticism to the supernatural, originally published in acclaimed venues like Out There Screaming and New Suns 2. P Djeli Clark whimsical “How To Raise A Kraken In Your Bathtub” and Tobias Buckell poignant “By Throat & Void” add depth and diversity, each story originally featured in Uncanny Magazine and The Sunday Morning Transport. The anthology also includes contributions from emerging and established authors such as Wole Talabi, Kemi Ashing-Giwa, and Cheryl Ntumy, ensuring a rich and immersive reading experience.

The Year’s Best African Speculative Fiction is a brainchild of Oghenechovwe Donald Ekpeki who was recently elected as a Director-at-Large at Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA). This year’s edition is co-edited with Nigerian writer and physician, Chinaza Eziaghighala. It will be published by Caezik Books, of Arc Manor.
