Tanzanian-born Australian author Eugen Bacon has been revealed as a 2024 Shirley Jackson Awards Nominee, which celebrates excellence in psychological suspense, horror, and dark fantasy.
Bacon is nominated in the Single-Author Collection category for her book A Place Between Waking and Forgetting, published by Raw Dog Screaming Press. The work blends speculative fiction with rich literature, examining themes of identity, and the in-between spaces of consciousness.
The Shirley Jackson Awards, named after the iconic American author of The Lottery and The Haunting of Hill House, are judged by a panel of writers, editors, critics, and scholars. The awards honor works published in the previous calendar year across six categories: Novel, Novella, Novelette, Short Fiction, Single-Author Collection, and Edited Anthology.
Now based in Australia, Bacon has earned international recognition for her poetic and genre-defying storytelling. Her work has been honored by the British Science Fiction Association, World Fantasy Awards, Australian Shadows Awards and so much more.
The 2024 Shirley Jackson Awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 19 at Readercon 34, held in Quincy, Massachusetts.
