Akpata Magazine is now accepting submissions for its upcoming issue titled “Coming Out: An Anthology of Identity”. The publication invites writers and artists from around the world to contribute original work that explores the multifaceted nature of identity and the act of coming into one’s truth.
This special issue focuses on personal transformations and the courage to unveil one’s authentic self—whether in terms of gender, culture, spirituality, or personal evolution. According to the editorial team, the goal is to gather work that speaks honestly and insightfully to the experience of becoming.
Submissions are open in the following categories:
- Fiction: Maximum 7,000 words.
- Nonfiction: Maximum 5,000 words. Essays should weave personal experience with deeper reflections on identity, culture, or existence.
- Poetry: Submit up to 4 poems, no line limit.
- Visual Art: Up to 3 high-resolution images (JPEG or PNG). Art should speak to the theme with emotional or philosophical resonance.
All written work should be submitted as a .docx file using a standard 12-point font (e.g., Times New Roman or Arial). Prose must be double-spaced; poetry may be single-spaced. Visual art must be submitted in high-resolution format.
Submissions should be emailed to akpatamag@gmail.com with the subject line:
“Submission: [Your Name] – [Genre]”. A brief bio (100 words or fewer) should be included in the email body or attached as a separate file. No cover letter is required.
The deadline for submissions is July 1, 2025, or until 300 entries have been received—whichever comes first.
Best of luck to all applicants!
