The Malawi Writers Union has announced the judging panel for the inaugural Malawi Writers Union Short Story Prize 2025 with the theme, “Mental Health and AI“.
The jury will be chaired by Malawian writer Stanley Onjezani Kenani, joined by Kenyan curator and writer Renee Akitelek Mboya and South African speculative fiction author Stephen Embleton.
The new prize is open to writers from Malawi, with a submission deadline of May 31, 2025. Stories should engage with the theme of mental health and artificial intelligence, inviting writers to explore ethical questions, futuristic narratives, and human resilience in a rapidly changing digital age.
An initiative of the new MAWU secretariat led by writer and publisher Shadreck Chikoti, the prize aims to support and spotlight bold storytelling from Malawi and encourage literary responses to contemporary global issues.
More information, including submission guidelines, is available on the Malawi Writers Union Facebook page.
