The CBC Literary Prizes have unveiled the longlist for the 2024 CBC Short Story Prize. Among the 29 writers longlisted are Vincent Anioke (Nigerian-Canadian), Nnamdi Ibeanusi (Nigeria) and Mirabelle Chiderah Harris-Eze (Nigerian-Canadian), making the African continent proud.
The CBC Literary Prize is granted annually in three categories: short stories, poetry, and creative non-fiction. For each category, the winner receives $6,000 and a two-week writing residency at the Banff Center for Arts and Creativity. Four runners-up receive $1,000 each, and all the winning works are published on the CBC Books website. The Prize was established as a partnership between the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the Canada Council of Arts and enRoute, Air Canada’s inflight magazine.
Over 1,900 submissions were submitted to the team, out of which 29 writers were selected. The Africans included in the list are:
- “Leave A Funny Message At The Beep” by Vincent Anioke
- “Tremor of The Tongue” by Nnamdi Ibeanusi

The winner of the 2024 CBC Short Story Prize will receive $6,000 from the Canada Council of Arts, a writing residency at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and their work will be published on CBC Books.
