Lolwe Literary Magazine Announces Open Call for Submissions

You are currently viewing Lolwe Literary Magazine Announces Open Call for Submissions

Lolwe Literary Magazine, a vibrant platform for Black artists from Africa, the Caribbean, and the Diaspora, has announced an open call for submissions, inviting creators to push boundaries and blur the lines of traditional storytelling.

Submissions are open welcoming original works in drama, orature, translation, hybrid-genre, and visual art.

Who Can Submit?

Black artists worldwide—from Africa, the Caribbean, and the broader Diaspora—are encouraged to submit their work. However, submissions in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry are limited to Lolwe Academy alumni or must be solicited directly by the magazine. Any unsolicited work in these categories will be automatically rejected.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Only original, unpublished work will be considered unless it is a translation.
  • Lolwe accepts submissions in drama, orature, translation, hybrid-genre, and visual art.
  • Prose should range between 1,000 and 10,000 words, poetry should include 3 to 5 poems in a single document, visual art should consist of 5 to 10 images or artworks accompanied by a 200-500 word description, and cover art submissions should be a single high-resolution image.
  • All submissions must be in Word document format, using Times New Roman, size 12, and double-spaced.
  • Work must be submitted via Submittable, as submissions sent via email will not be read and will be automatically rejected.
  • Contributors can expect a response within three months of submission and should not inquire about their submission status before this period has passed.
  • Only one submission per contributor per category is allowed, and submitting to multiple categories or sending multiple pieces will result in automatic rejection.
  • There are no submission fees, and Lolwe offers modest remuneration for accepted works.
  • A brief third-person bio should accompany each submission.
  • Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but contributors must notify Lolwe if their work is accepted elsewhere, as failure to do so will result in disqualification.

Artists are encouraged to review Lolwe’s past issues to understand the magazine’s aesthetic and editorial direction.
