EFIKO, the online literary magazine dedicated to African perspectives and storytelling, has announced the opening of submissions for its 6th edition.

From February 1 to March 20, 2025, writers of African origin and those writing about Africa are invited to submit their poems, short stories, and essays for consideration.

EFIKO has established itself as a definitive platform for book lovers and writers passionate about Africa, offering a space for high-quality literary works that explore the continent’s diverse cultures, histories, and experiences. Aspiring contributors are encouraged to review the magazine’s past issues and About page to better understand its vision and style.

Submission Guidelines

  • EFIKO accepts poetry submissions of 2 to 5 poems, totaling no more than 10 pages, and short stories or essays ranging from 1,200 to 5,000 words.
  • Submissions must be formatted in Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, with numbered pages.
  • Writers should email their work as a Word document attachment to submissions@efikomag.com , indicating the genre in the subject line. The document should be saved with the writer’s name and genre (e.g., “JohnDoe_Poetry.docx”). A 5-line bio must also be included in the body of the email.

Payment and Rights

For contributors with Nigerian bank accounts, EFIKO offers payment of 30,000 naira for 2 or more poems or prose over 2,500 words, and 20,000 naira for shorter works. International contributors will receive a novel or nonfiction book of their choice, valued at up to $40, due to inter-country transfer challenges.

For more information, visit EFIKO’s website or contact the editorial team at editors@efikomag.com.

Best of luck to all applicants!
