The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has unveiled the shortlist for the 2024 ANA Literary Prizes highlighting the best of Nigerian literature across multiple genres, with the final winners set to be revealed on November 2nd, 2024.
Here is a list of all shortlisted authors according to their award category:
ANA/KMVL Poetry Prize
- Heaven Is a Place on Earth by Francis Otole
- I am Sinkinrinminni by Sangodare Anyila
- Tattoos of Bullet Holes by Charles Terseer Akwen
ANA/King Dakolo Fiction Prize
- Tearless by Ayo Deforge
- The Road does not End by Olubunmi Familoni
- Sons of the East by Ifeoma Chinwuba
ANA Drama Prize

- When Uncle Coro-Coro Came to Town by Akan Essien
- Ebiam the Gloryland by Ebidenyefa Tarila-Nikade
This year, the ANA/Sir Chukwuemeka Sam Nwuele Non-Fiction Prize will not be awarded due to only receiving two entries from the same author, preventing competition. The entries will be carried forward to the next cycle at no cost to the author or publisher, with hopes that more writers will participate in the future.
Additionally, the ANA/Amina Talaku Zakama Prize for Literary Criticism received no submissions, and ANA encourages more contributions to this important field in the coming years.
Founded on 27 June 1981, ten years after the Nigerian Civil War, at a conference at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) is a non-profit organisation that promotes Nigerian literature. It represents Nigerian creative writers at home and abroad. Legendary Nigerian novelist Chinua Achebe was its founding president.
Congratulations to all shortlisted authors!
