The African Griot invites submissions in honour for the launch of the Alexander Nderitu For World Literature with this year’s team, “Peace” to be awarded to the best unpublished short story from anywhere in the world.
Founded by Alexander Nderitu, TheAfricanGriot is a movement, an artistic renaissance forged in the heart of Africa seeking to revive the role of ancient storytellers and historians – albeit adapted for the modern age. The African Griot project is a movement of which this website is but one manifestation. This platform is primarily focused on Literature, Music, Poetry, Theatre, Film/Television, Fashion, and Cultural News.
Submission Guidelines:
- All entries must be previously unpublished and may be written in English or Kiswahili languages.
- Submissions should be in a Microsoft Word (doc, docx) document.
- It should be in a Times New Roman font, 12-point size, double-spaced.
- The story, minus the title, must be between 3000 and 5000 words. Pages should be numbered.
- Only the title of the story and the word count should appear in the document along with the story. No author-identifying information should be included.
- Submissions should be sent to submissions@theafricangriot.com.
This year’s prize literature’s judges include: Laureate winner, Rupasinghe D. Pramudith (Sri Lanka), Playwright, novelist, Henry Akubuiro ( Nigeria), Poet, novelist, playwright, and critic, Alexander Nderitu (Kenya).
The overall winner will receive a Kshs 100,000 (USD$ 740.00) cash prize and an online marketing campaign worth another Kshs 100,000; sponsored by IT firm Websoft Interactive. For any inquiries regarding the Prize, please email admin@theafricangriot.com
